English Language Proficiency in the Philippines: An Overview

The Philippines is considered one of the largest English-speaking nations in world. In fact, English official languages Philippines. But throughout years, a gradual deterioration language proficiency can be observed among Filipinos based on EF Proficiency Index, Test for International Communication (TOEIC), and average score Filipino IELTS takers. This paper aims to discuss different factors behind descending proficiency, such as learners’ motivation, parental involvement, learning environment, teaching strategies, comprehensive input, socio-economic status, learners' age. Several articles have been reviewed examined authors come up with following conclusions: 1) Continuous practice usage could help us further cement our economy; 2) there still huge room improvement terms grammar which also alleviate anxiousness, 3) we need strike balance polishing education nurturing local cultural languages. review will teachers planning implementing classes improve students' educational institutions that aim uplift quality teaching, curriculum developers constructing innovative materials.
